Default Do you see this growing?

Given that Google is such a giant in other areas, do you think that Google Checkout will become popular like it's other services or will this be one area that Google can't catch up in?

Considering the fact that PayPal is the 800 pound gorilla in this arena, I think Google is having to play some catch up. Will they ever gain? Not sure, but consider this. Google was a big player before Microsoft decided to try to catch them in the search engine arena and as big as MS is, they still haven't caught them. Does that analogy work in the payment processor area? Only time will tell.

That is true. Google is so far ahead of any other search engine that it's not even funny. While Paypal is the leader, it is mainly due to eBay sales that they got to be so big. If Google could come up with a similar hook, I don't think they'd have much trouble overtaking Paypal. Too many people are complaining about Paypal not explaining their TOS properly and not helping when people email support.

I don't see this service ever taking over paypal, unless google starts over and re-builds there system from the ground up. It just does not have the structure and options it needs to excel.

Playing catchup is a good way to phrase that and its very well true. Some use GC thinking since its Google its all ok, but some places still do not accept it and that gets frustrating.

If the buying videos on youtube feature takes off like itunes has then I can see google checkout becoming used in many more places than it it now, but if it stalls, as I kind of expect it will then I'm not sure it can last. Remeber that noone had heard of paypal before ebay, and that there are still many people that wont use paypal, If ebay were to allow google checkout alongside paypal then I could see it becoming huge, but I dont see ebay allowing it.

There are certain aspects of customer service where PayPal is weak and that could cause customers to look for another payment processor. If that is the case, then Google would be wise to exploit PayPal's weaknesses and move in to take a larger share of the market.

If you can do better than who you are going up against of course that is a great line to take but they need to make sure down to the nitty gritty they can out top PP before they say they can too.

I don't think that it is becoming increasingly popular. Google would gain a lot if they linked Google Checkout with withdrawing Google Adsense revenues.
