Default Moneybookers = scam?

I'm always interested in different payment processors but when I was looking around the Internet about this site, it seems that the word SCAM came up quite a bit. Is it possible that Moneybookers is legit but it's being used by scammers and that's what the problem is? You seldom hear these type of problems with PayPal.

The problem is that scammers are using Moneybookers for their own gain to victimize someone naive who uses it. I've read in an article online that scammers use some third party online processor to transfer funds to Moneybookers like Escrow.

I've not heard of any problems with Moneybookers but then it wouldn't surprise me. Any service that provides a degree of anonymity to the sender and reciever leave room for abuse.

I don't think MoneyBookers themselves are the cause of the scam - I think their allowance anonimity makes them vulnerable to fraudsters attacking MoneyBookers accounts. This doesn't mean people should avoid MoneyBookers. It means they should be more vigilant with their accounts and usages.

It's really difficult, at times, to determine who is scamming whom. Moneybookers may be a legit company, but as someone said, because people can remain anonymous, that can create some bad situations because of dishonest people. As the old saying goes, "buyer beware".

Scam or not, if you have to ask yourself that questions, then it is probably safe to say that it would not be a bad idea to stay away. There is no reason to put your finances in a situation to loose them.

I don't know anything about these guys, but are they any better than paypal? I would not try to use somebody new, just because they are new, if they do not offer better services or cheaper prices, why?

Moneybookers isn't a scam. I've had an account with them almost since they began but I don't use it often. Their fees are higher than both Paypal and Alertpay so I only have it as an extra option but I rarely get a request for it.

So it sounds like some scammers were using Moneybookers to take advantage of people and ended up having their name dragged through the mud. Bad name and high fees will keep most people away.
